Romania: Constanta Port traffic shut due to bad weather conditions
Bucharest, Jan 18 /Agerpres/ - The strong winds on Monday halted vessel traffic at the Constanta South port and also the transit of barges on the Danube - Black Sea Canal and through the locks at Agigea.
The head of the Harbour Master's Office Alexandru Mezei stated that he sent notices of worsening weather for the next 12 hours, with possibility of extension up to 24 hours, to all ships in Constanta South, Constanta North, Midia and Mangalia ports (all of them in southern Romania). 'The wind speed is going to increase in intensity, up to exceeding 70 km /hour, with the sea storm to record the level seven or eight on the Beaufort scale (waves four to five meters high), and therefore we require all crews to take additional safety measures,' said Mezei. Due to bad weather conditions, ships in outbound must keep engines running, to avoiding thus being taken by the drift, while the ships at the wharf need to strengthen their ties with the shore. Commanders are also required to have permanently a man watching. AGERPRES [www.romaniapress.com]
