Romania: 'Gruber's Journey' to be shown in U.S..
Bucharest, Jan 20 / Agerpres / - The feature film 'Gruber's Journey,' directed by Romanian Radu Gabrea, will run in the American cinema halls this year, informs the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York (ICR-NY).
Presented for the first time at the Romanian Film Festival in New York, in 2008, Gabrea's film enjoyed numerous participations, since then, in festivals in North America (Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia, Silicon Valley, Toronto, Vancouver). It has also been selected, recently, to participate in the prestigious New York Jewish Film Festival, the largest festival of its kind in the U.S.
Radu Gabrea attended the first screenings in the U.S., on January 13-14, and answered the questions from the public. Film critic Scott Foundas (LA Weekly, Village Voice) presented the film.
The film also run at the Walter Reade Theater within the Lincoln Centre, having been received with great interest by the public in New York, with more than 1,000 spectators recorded at the 3 screenings.
Its presence at the New York Jewish Film Festival drew a distribution contract with a prestigious American distributor. Thus, 'Gruber's Journey' is to be launched soon in the U.S. cinema halls, as well as on DVD and broadcast on several TV channels.
Based on a scenario that belongs to Alexandru Baciu and Razvan Radulescu and having as protagonist Florin Piersic Jr., Gabrea's film tells the story of the visit to Iasi of Italian writer and journalist Curzio Malaparte, author of the famous books 'Kaputt' and 'Coupe d'Etat: The Technique of Revolution', only few days after the beginning of the war against the URSS, in June 1941.
Alongside Florin Piersic Jr. and Marcel Iures, Claudiu Bleont, Razvan Vasilescu, Alexander Bindea, Andi Vasluianu and also well-known German actor Udo Schenk completed the crew.
The film 'Gruber's Journey' had its premiere in Romania last autumn. AGERPRES
