Bucharest, Jan 24 /Agerpres/ - President Traian Basescu, present on Sunday in Iasi (eastern Romania), in the events organized on the occasion of the Union of Romanian Principalities, stated that January 24 represents the act of Greater Romania foundation.

'Today, we mark 151 years since the founding act of Greater Romania construction. Without the event of Jan. 24, 1859, Greater Romania would have failed to exist, it was the effort generated by the Romanians' drive to unity, irrespective where they were in the Carpathian-Danube space, it was (...) an act of pure will, the Romanians' need to be together, to be united', said Basescu.
