Republic of Moldova support group is launched in Brussels at Romania's initiative.
Brussels, Jan 25 /Agerpres/ - Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Baconschi launched on Monday in Brussels the Informal Support Group of the European Union member states for the Republic of Moldova's European action, on the sidelines of the External Affairs Council, during a working breakfast.

The event was co-chaired by French Foreign Ministry's State Secretary for European Affairs Pierre Lellouche and had as a special guest Vice Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, the Republic of Moldova's minister of foreign affairs and European integration.

Ministers, state secretaries and ambassadors at the EU attended the event on behalf of Austria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Italy, Great Britain, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and Hungary, the Romanian foreign ministry said in a release. The initiative is open to all member states interested in supporting Moldova's democratic and European route.

The Romanian chief diplomat underlined the importance of the democratic changes in Chisinau and the need for the EU member states to support the reforms in order to consolidate the state of law and to curb the economic crisis effects deeply felt in the Republic of Moldova.

During the debates, firm supporting messages for the obvious pro-European orientation of the Chisinau authorities were sent and the crucial importance of the substantial and immediate support emerged both at the level of the EU institutions, as well as of the member states, with the participants launching concrete ideas and proposals for the near future. The Romanian side's initiative aims at dialogue enhancement at the EU level, regarding Moldova's European perspective and the pragmatic and constant support for taking the necessary steps in this respect, the foreign ministry said.
