Romania: Teodor Baconschi to participate in International Conference on Afghanistan.
Bucharest, Jan 28 / Agerpres / - Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodor Baconschi on Thursday will participate in the International Conference on Afghanistan to be held in London and co-chaired by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Afghan President Hamid Karzai and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, informs a release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE).

At the conference, the chief of Romanian diplomacy will present Romania's contribution to the international community efforts to ensure security, stabilization and development of Afghanistan. He will also have a series of bilateral meetings with some of the peers participating in the event, says MAE.

The Conference on Afghanistan is aimed at mobilizing resources and the support of the international community in a programme to build the future Afghanistan, recently presented by the Afghan President Hamid Karzai in his speech after winning new tenure. It will also be discussed the creation of conditions for establishing a new partnership between the international community and Afghanistan, to place this state on a positive course irreversibly.

The three sessions of the conference will address Afghanistan's security, development and good governance, as well as the regional and international architecture.

The London Conference is dedicated to coordinating efforts of the international community in Afghanistan and its partnership with the Afghan authorities.

The main objective of the conference is to discuss and establish the guidelines for Afghanistan in the following months.

Among the guests to the event there were the NATO Secretary General Anders Fog Rasmussen, ForMins of countries contributing to the International Assistance Security Force or of the states neighbouring Afghanistan, as well as representatives of key regional players and of some key international institutions (World Bank, International Monetary Fund).
