Rugby: FIRA trusts Romania with European Rugby 7 Championships
Bucharest, Jan 29 /Agerpres/ - International Amateur Rugby Federation (FIRA-AER) announced that Romania would host one of the six tournaments of the European Rugby Sevens Cup, the new Olympic sport. The event brings together 30 European teams, but without UK, Wales, Scotland or Ireland, and has 6 qualification tournaments and a final one.
Romania is to host the tournament in Bucharest, on May 22-23, when Russia, the Republic of Moldova, Poland, Cyprus, Ukraine, Bosnia, Greece, Bulgaria, Israel and Romania are to attend. Romania along with Russia, Georgia and the Republic of Moldova will also compete in the tournament due in Ukraine, on May 29-30, two such participations in qualification tournaments being required to reach the final. And it is the teams gaining the largest number of points to play the finals. Romania ranked the 8th in the previous Rugby Sevens European Championships, a sport to become ever more interesting, after being recognized an Olympic sport that will make its debut in the Summer Olympics Games in 2016.
