Romanian currency leu (RON) on Monday reached lowest level in the latest year.
Bucharest, Feb 1 / Agerpres / - Romania's National Bank (BNR) on Monday announced an exchange rate of 4.0805 RON / euro, down 4.15 bani (division of leu) from the reference rate announced on Friday, of RON 4.1220, which represented the lowest level in the past 13 months, since that of January 7, 2009, of 4.0720 RON / euro.

The U.S. dollar also dropped by 1.15 bani, to RON 2.9358, compared with RON 2.9509 on Friday.

On the interbank market, the national currency of Romania has lost some of the appreciation gained in the opening of the session, transactions involving the European currency relying on an exchange rate of RON 4.0742-4.0832 for one euro, at around 1:05 p.m.

According to estimates of the X-Trade Brokers brokerage house, 'the leu is expected to maintain its appreciation' this week. Days following appear to be quite busy in terms of publication of such important macroeconomic indicators, especially in the U.S. and UK, which, together with the evolutions in Greece, may have important influences on the rate of the euro, with effects on the leu too.'
