Romania: Yellow code alert of rain, strong winds, iced-up roads issued for 24 counties and capital
Bucharest, Feb 9 /Agerpres/ - The National Meteorology Administration on Tuesday has issued a fresh Code Yellow alert of downpours, gusts of wind and iced-up roads from 3 p.m. on Wednesday till 8 p.m. on Thursday for 24 counties and Bucharest.
According to the forecaster, there will be wintry showers that will locally exceed 20 litres per square metre starting from Wednesday noon till late on Thursday in Oltenia, Muntenia, the southern half of Moldavia, while in the Mountains of Banat, the Southern and Eastern Carpathians there will be downpours of 40 litres per sqm. The downpours will be mostly snow at first and they will turn into sleet and rain on Wednesday night and on Thursday, mostly in the plain and in the hilly areas. Roads will be iced-up in some areas. The national weather forecaster also warned of gusts of wind in the south-west, south and east and in the mountains in particular, where the wind will blow at 90-100 kmph. The counties that have been issued the Yellow Code alert are Galati, Vrancea, Covasna, Buzau, Braila, Tulcea, Constanta, Ialomita, Calarasi, Prahova, Bucuresti, Ilfov, Giurgiu, Dambovita, Teleorman, Arges, Valcea, Olt, Dolj, Gorj, Mehedinti, Caras-Severin and partially the counties of Bacau, Brasov and Sibiu.
