Romania: PM Boc to attend Visegrad Group Summit and Danube Summit.
Bucharest, Feb 18 /Agerpres/ - Romania's Prime Minister Emil Boc will be attending two summit meetings to be hosted by Budapest, Hungary, February 24-26: the Visegrad Group Summit and the Danube Summit of the Danube Cooperation Process.

Attending the Visegrad Group Summit on February 24 will be state officials from the Visegrad Group - the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia - and the prime ministers of Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia, as well as officials of the European Commission and the incumbent Spanish Presidency of the European Council and US officials. The summit will host energy security talks at the highest level in order to find a common way to strengthen energy security.

The Hungarian Embassy in Bucharest reports that the attendees will be trying to define their common interests and start off lobbying the European Union.

The main topics for discussion will be oil and natural gas supply; the interconnection of energy systems; the development of the Nabucco gas pipeline project; natural gas storage; nuclear projects, as well as energy relations between the EU and Russia and between the EU and the US.

The participants are expected to voice their wish to diversify the natural gas routes and supply sources as well as strengthening their gas networks. They want to promote common regional interests under European Union's second energy policy action plan 2010-2014. At the same time, they are expected to commit their joint efforts to win more European financial resources for the Nabucco project. The participants will set up ad-hoc expert groups that will work on various projects, including the interconnection of North Stream and oil supply.

The second summit in Budapest, the Danube Summit, will be held February 25-26. Budapest will play host to the second event in a series of five international conferences to be organised by the European Commission on this theme. The summit is thought to provide a framework for dialogue between the European Commission and officials of the governments of the countries involved, business executives, academics and international organisations.
