Romania: President Basescu pays surprise visit to Afghanistan.
Bucharest, Mar 4 /Agerpres/ - Romania's president Traian Basescu has arrived on Thursday morning in Afghanistan, where he pays a surprise visit and is to meet the Romanian military operating there.

The head of state was welcomed, at the Kandahar airport, by the NATO troops commander in Afghanistan, general Stanley McCrystal, and the British general Nick Carter.

President Traian Basescu is accompanied by the Romanian minister of Defence, Gabriel Oprea, and the General Chief of Staff, admiral Gheorghe Marin.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the president paid a state visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan.AGERPRES
