Romania: Danube continues to swell.
Bucharest, March 9 /Agerpres/ - The Danube River on Tuesday reached a flow of 13,412 cubic metres per second and a level of 576 centimetres, 18 cm past the alert levels, having risen by 2 cm over the past 24 hours, in the eastern city of Galati, spokesman for the Galati Prefecture Petrica Patilea Crangan said. The Danube is being monitored and measurements are being made every three hours by the experts from the Lower Danube Administration. The latest water forecasts indicate the Danube will reach its maximum level in Galati on March 10, when a flow of 13,686 cubic metres per second and 587 cm are expected. The flash floods on the Danube are said to follow a usual course without endangering the water engineering works or the activity of business operators in the river communities. A Code Yellow flooding advisory will stay in force in Galati throughout March 12. The flooding level of the Danube is 600 cm and the danger level is 700 cm. The Danube reached its highest level in Galati in April 2006, at 677 cm, by 57 cm above the flooding level. AGERPRES [Read the article in ]
