Meeting Melescanu - Ambassador of Tunisia; Romanian-Tunisian economic relations’ potential for consolidation and diversification, noted.
Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Melescanu received on Tuesday the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tunisia, H. E. Ms. Boutheina Labidi, on a farewell visit, on which occasion the Romanian minister noted the significant potential for the consolidation and diversification of the Romanian-Tunisian economic relations, in sectors such as agriculture, renewable energy, the railroads and IT.
According to a press release of the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) sent to AGERPRES, the head of the Romanian diplomacy underscored that Tunisia is a traditional trade partner of Romania and on 16 December as many as 55 years since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations will be celebrated.
"The two officials appreciated the positive developments recorded in the Romanian-Tunisian relations in all the domains of interest, especially political, economic, educational and cultural. They highlighted the perspectives of maintaining this upward dynamic in the upcoming period too, through contacts at parliamentary level and boosting the sectoral relations in the context of both states' consistent efforts in promoting bilateral relations, with a focus on intensifying the economic and commercial component," the release further shows.
At the same time, based on the positive results of the official visit carried out in Tunis, 19 to 20 April, Minister Melescanu "noted the significant potential for the consolidation and diversification of the Romanian-Tunisian economic relations, in sectors such as agriculture, renewable energy, the railroads and IT." He also emphasised the role of the economic diplomacy in stimulating the interest of the business communities in both countries aimed at capitalising on existent opportunities, with the major input of the commerce and industry chambers.
Moreover, the Foreign Affairs Minister showed that boosting political dialogue and extending the cooperation between Romania and the states of Northern Africa constitutes an important component in implementing the objective to relaunch bilateral relations in this area, an objective included in the 2018-2020 governing programme.
"The meeting also occasioned a swap of opinions regarding the perspectives of multilaterally deepening the Romanian-Tunisian cooperation, especially within the United Nations and the International Organisation of the Francophonie," reads the release.
At the end of the meeting, Teodor Melescanu thanked the Ambassador of Tunisia for the active involvement and contributions brought to developing the bilateral relations and wished her all the best in the future activity," MAE further informs.
